  • Javelin Anti-Armour Missiles

Those Javelins look pretty potent how many have we got exactly? Do they make up for the lack of armour at least in defensive terms?

    what javelins? where?

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

The ones which we've apparently ordered.

There aren't enough of them to provide a practical conventional defense, though in select situations, they'll be very useful. Put it this way, at NTC, OpFor draws a 2,500m circle around troop concentrations and simply don't enter line of sight in that circle. Javelin is rated as that deadly.

We're getting around30 or 40 which is nominally enough to equip two battalions but realistically will be used to equip whatever battalion or equivalent deployments we have overseas plus a small training cadre back in the curragh.

Compared to other missiles of this type how does the Javelin compare?

Also when the order has been fully delivered how many operational Javelin weapon systems will we have available?

Some videos of Javelin tests (though the explosive content amounts of the T72 turret were fudged somewhat): http://www.esdjournal.com/archives/a...in/javelin.htm

Compare the above video clip of the javelin with that of the Bill 2 at the link below:

The site also has video clips of the AT4, RBS70 and Carl Gustav.

Well we're not in NATO although we do try very hard to be NATO standardised as to be otherwise would a logs and procurement nightmare.
There is no NATO standard uniform to my knowledge every country just suits themselves.

I think I "discovered" this pic back in late 2001 on the Lockheed website. There are a few more there also showing the DF trials.
