James Dee spent 28 years in the Irish Army among his military occupations were Army Ranger, Driver , Member of the Military Police Special Investigaton Branch and Infantry Sergeant
He served twice with the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus UNFICYP and 4 tours of Lebanon.

Anecdotal tales of funny instances that broke up the 6 moth tours including being asked by a lebanese shop keeper in a perfect Athlone accent "Hows the new by pass workin out for yez" despite the lady having never been to Ireland
