Thanks for the photos, good effort put in there. A question on the GOH, is it normal for one to be marched off in twos? I've never been in a GOH but I've only ever seen the NS marching in twos.

Guards of Honour are done in 2 ranks, with short arm dressing. Makes the inspection easier, and looks a bit better.

Thanks Barry, I know the inspection is carried out with two ranks, my question was with marching off in twos rather than reforming 3 ranks and marching off as normal.

I see a few familiar faces there. Shame I couldn't make it myself.

            Weather helped as well.

They weren't even inspected the day before! I'd call it luck more than anything else!

I'm wondering if anyone got pics of the Presidential escort and the new Motorcycle uniforms?

Just one from the DF Flickr page, not very clear however.

                  Really???

We shouldn't start pointing out faults with the dress on the board.... .... .... should we??

The majority of those on parade are 2*s who most likely were issued No1s specifically for this event. Not commenting on anyone from this particular guard of honour, but people need to be shown how to care for and wear a uniform, and inspections are a big part of that.

While 3*s with lots of service, and NCOs, should know how to wear the uniform, and thus SHOULDN'T need to be inspected (though should be anyway, to make sure), those with less experience do need to be inspected to ensure that a consistent standard of turnout is being set and achieved by all those on parade.

Lads don't even try to start poking holes, that GOH was fantastic and reflected extremely well not only those present and on the RDF but the Defence Forces as a whole. A credit to everyone involved!

I was on the GOH. The 67th inspected those for the GOH the parade night before, told everyone what needed to be done if anything, changed etc. As far as I know that was the same for all units. And even then we had to make changes Saturday evening to some soldiers uniforms, most only small things like the flashes had a spacing of three instead of two fingers width.
On another note, this was the first year we got to stay in military accommodation. I think that should be the norm, means not running late the next day if people are late or as I said earlier gives an opportunity to make changes with those who know how to correctly make the uniform ready for wearing

Also that was an excellent video!!
And I think the cav bikers uniform looked very sexy

Why on earth this commemoration isn't upgraded to something like Remembrance Day instead of languishing as the last item on the 9 o'clock news beats the hell out of me. Some people have no pride in their country!
Great show this year. Well done to everyone concerned.

RTE have always been anti DF. They have been anti establidhment for years, and revel in the chance to have a dig at any element in the public sector, including the DF. Indeed watching TG4 in the last week, I have never seen óBradaigh on TV so often, smirking away to himself as he had fond thoughts of all those who he killed, back in the day during the "war".
                              Normalisation....
Army Deafness claims would get headline news, Naval involvement in rescuing the crew of a foreign trawler at sea would barely make aertel. The only exception to this rule has been Nationwide, which has always been Pro-DF, if sometime a bit twee.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
