takin care of the troops big style!
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

i think our soldiers were eating Argie Beef during the Falklands War back in '82 whilst the Argies bombed us with British 500lb bombs.

all is fair in love and war.

Was there not a big song and dance made of the fact non Irish beef was being used some years back?

There's no problem with Argentinian beef, I don't know what the ruckus was about regarding the ration packs. Due to CAP restrictions, non EU beef can only be sold in the EU as processed meat in order to keep European production and trade viable.

If it wasn't for trade restrictions and tariffs, we'd all eat Argentinian beef.
Best beef in the world, grass fed all year round, no cooping them up in stalls for the winter.

That was my - admittedly tongue in cheek - point exactly.

At home though. It's probably harder to get Irish beef in the middle of a desert.

There is also New Zealand meat on the same pallet.

I worked in North Africa for a long time, including the shifty eighties. We used to get " Irish beef " all the time. However , when you opened the box, it was bellybeef and almost inedible. Anyone who's seen this "cut ' will know that it's a layer of fat, a layer of meat, a layer of fat and so on. There was also a nasty looking green splodge on the skin, which either meant that it was Irish, or condemned !! You make your own mind up !
I'm sure that that kind of thing is all in the past.
