        H&k 416/417?
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Black ops santa. If you don't guess correctly what he's got in his sack, you get double-tapped. The suppressor is so he doesn't wake the children when he shoots you and the little black bag collects the empties so they don't rattle off the mantlepiece. "Nah, it's not a train set". Ptoo, ptoo, clink, clink.

Holographic sights are designed for close range engagements. They are not very useful at more than 50m. They are good for going into compounds and buildings, but for anything requiring range, we use ELCANs.

Congratulations on your elcans. The mission requirement has a bearing on the choice of Sight..

                      The UK use EOtechs also

                      US Feds

                      US Coast guard..

Obviously this is another mission specific requirement using different sights.

Slow down on the attitude... we use EO Techs also; actually, on my last deployment to Afghanistan, everybody on the OMLT teams had one for those times when we had to clear compounds and buildings. For everything else, we kept the ELCANS on.

The first picture shows a guy in a firing position with a bag on his lap; he is looking for stability for a long range engagement. The other pics (UK RM, USCG) likely show MCT activities, where a MG is used for longer-range engagements, and the rifle is used at very close range when boarding the ship.

                            Just saying...

Now, your assuming the EOtech is for long range engagement when I posted another photo of similar origin with a Hk 417 with a Schmidt & Bender .. Would it be fair to say that maybe the two taskings are different?

The stability bag is used due to the small size of the aircraft and nothing more whether long or short range engagements.

If you select "All Sizes" and then "Original" on the photo on the Flickr page, voila, the
designation can be see stamped on the side of the weapon
