well if anything, with the history of procurement issues, etc. that the Kiwis have suffered in the recent past, the comparisons that are made as to how the DF should be structured, equipped, etc. maybe should be taken with a pinch of salt now.
Kiwi's seemed to be the poster boys of how a DF should be organised up until recently but they seem to be having their fair share of equipment and organisational problems of late.

Careful, people in glass houses and all. The DF had their fair share too of "great" procurement

The NZDF should change its shoulder flash from a white kiwi to a white elephant as over this last decade or so almost everything they have purchased has turned into a financial disaster.
Their new helicopters, armoured vehicles and ships costing billions have turned out to be almost useless, now I'm sure their new rifles will be added to that long list of junk.

The Kiwis have not had much luck lately in terms of defence.
The RNZAF lost its fighter jets after the government decided not to replace the A4 with F16s. Their plans to buy C130J were scuppered too, and they have been forced to struggle on with the elderly C130 till they are no longer airworthy, and is the only user of the Kaman Seasprite in the southern Hemisphere.
The RNZN decided to embark on a costly project to buy 7 new ships to patrol its coastline and protectorates in the southern Ocean. It ended up with a car ferry painted grey that was quick to begin killing its crew, 2 OPVs with helidecks that rarely leave port and are unable to patrol the southern ocean in winter, and 4 IPVs that are carrying the bulk of the work, alongside 2 lame duck frigates, Te Kaha and Te Mana (due to be replaced), while losing all its trained crew to the RAN which has no shortage of ships, but a huge shortage of crew.
