    Whats the consensus on the DF's relationship with religion, mainly Catholicism. Anyone think the DF shouldn't be involved with any sort of religion? Just curious is all

    The chaplaincy play a very important role in the DF .I think religion and military are always close regardless of the army.

            Just a question ..
            In my time in the DF (80`s) when we were marched to a mass if you were not a catholic you were made stand outside , does this still go on or is it different.
            What do you mean abandon ship
            Are they taking requests?

                Mass parades have changed since then, although I do remember it. You will have to parade with everyone else but do not have to go into the church, even if you are RC, unlike in days gone by, where if you were on record as RC, you were going to church where you wanted to or not

                  By "involved with religion" I mean just like the mass parade, troops are made to take part in a religious ceremony as part of their working day.

                      There is no such thing as a mass parade any more, there is a parade, following which those who choose to go to mass will be marched to the church

                        Cry "havoc!", and let slip the dogs of war!

                          What do those who don't choose the church option do for the duration?

                            same for me.

                            "No, they're trying to fly the tank"

                              As a Recruit I used to love First Friday Mass- 1 solid hour of sleep in Arbour Hill

                              in the warmth-
                              Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                              Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                              The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                              The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                              The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                              Are full of passionate intensity.
