  • New DCOS Ops

An Air Corps officer has been appointed to one of the top three jobs in the Defence Forces.

    Nice political choice there,

It was either him or Comdre, Frank Lynch FOCNS

Why because army officers wouldn't want to be seen to shit on their own in the next round of closures or reductions, so get the outsiders to do it,

fifty fifty call, obviously this guy lost.

      Government jet for everyone.
A terrible choice. This man has led the Air Corpse from Being a Half arsed Operation, with antique jet trainers and a mediocre SAR service to being a Full time Government taxi service equipped with turboprop trainers for formation displays at state events.

His priority will be designing his new Air Corps Major Generals uniform.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Is this the first time that a GOC Air Corps has been appointed to DCOS position?

Nice to see the management of the Air Corpse get some recognition for the the fine job done in creating a lean, efficent, relevant organisation.

I hope that Major General James can inject the AC ethos into the rest of the Defence Forces.

At present the only branch of the PDF with a similar work ethic is the RDF Cadre Staff.

With leadership like this we have nothing to fear.

Congrats to the man himself- he is a nice guy and I am sure he is a fine pilot etc.

However we have to remember the DF is in flux at the moment, with no promotion- budgets about

to be slashed- much more professional training- bettter equipment etc-

yet promoted into the role of the 3rd most senior Member of the DF is a person with no experience

in the role- His only comparable tasks have been as Ops Officer in AME and with UNTSO

its hardly comparable- At least FOCNS would have more Ops experience.

DCOS OPS is not a role you get on the job training in- most DCOS Ops have been Unit Ops-

Bde Ops- DFHQ Ops in the various Staff appointment- they were doing this whilst RJ was

breaking the surly bonds of earth.

However I wish the new DCOS Ops all the best in his new role

                Hi all,
RJ is far more Army-focused than any previous GoC AC, so the Army can breath a sigh of relief on that front. He WILL make his crews and aircraft available to the Army, despite any in-house resistance. He is a forceful individual who does not like half-baked excuses and has a finely-honed bullshit detector. From experience,he prefers that his subordinates be at least half-afraid of him.Watch how he goes.
                regards
                GttC

He WILL make his crews and aircraft available to the Army,
There within lies the crux... DCOS is not head of the Aer Corps any more, not his option. If anything he has been removed from the reins of power within the AC and has even less say in matters as his new role is DF driven rather than service.

This is the step side ways in the career that should be dreaded. No one in the army wants the job so shaft someone else....why do you think a cavalry officer is now COS.. he can't damage the cavalry and has to be on the side of the majority, surrounded by infantry.

Its not about who is in charge but where he comes from and how he can be manipulated.

What planet are you on? There are several Brig Gens that would chew your right arm off for the promotion to Major Gen.

That would have meant creating an admiral for the first time.

I would say they would love to, as the Greens have lost a domino of promotion opportunites with this appt.
I presume the vacant GOC appt has to be filled from within the AC ?

That was also a time when the role of A/COS was to defend the COS from cirrhosis of the liver.
