He has a hard act to follow. Anyone I know who saw the last Judge in action was very complimentary about his impartiality, he stuck to the law rather than following the Army line
-
Very true but if I was in front of him I'm not sure how much favour he'd show towards an unblemished prior record or extenuating circumstances; would it be "by the book" all the way.
If only everything in the DF was done "by the book". Come to think of would it be a good or bad thing if everything was done "by the book"
Anyway, best of luck to him. The DF is in for a tough few years and he's one of the good guys in my opinion.

Well he's ex 2Bn (among other units) but that doesn't seem to impress HH. Maybe HH didn't get a chance to teach him the facts of life as a junior officer before he moved on
I got on really well with him and he is a "believer" (Army comes first, a bit by the book) which can rub some up the wrong way. Having said that I saw him being very harsh with others that I respected and couldn't understand why he had a problem with them and not others.
Not an easy job either way. Best of luck to him. There's been far worse apes by a long distance make full colonel.Last edited by Jessup; 26 August 2010, 21:44.

From military.ie (28 July)
The Government has recommended Colonel Peter Richardson to be appointed as Military Judge for the Defence Forces.
Colonel Richardson, who is expected to be formally appointed by the President in the coming weeks, will take up the position which was vacated by Colonel Anthony McCourt, who retired earlier this month.
Born in Dublin in 1952, Colonel Richardson was educated in Colaiste Mhuire, Parnell Square, Dublin. He commenced his military service as a Cadet in October 1971, and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps in 1973. He graduated from University College Galway with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and qualified as a Barrister at Law from the Kings Inns in 1985. He was called to the Bar in the same year.
Colonel Richardson has held a variety of command and staff appointments during his career. He served in each of the three Infantry Battalions within the Second Eastern Brigade; the 2nd, 5th and 27th Infantry Battalions. He has also served as a Staff Officer within the Directorate of Administration, Defence Forces Headquarters. Colonel Richardson has extensive overseas service, having served in Lebanon, Namibia, Haiti and the Ivory Coast.

Wait to you hear who the new Judge is! Not sure if it's official but if it's the name that I heard then many in the East will have crossed his path (or gunsight!) when he was a line officer.
If it was like an appointment of a right wing or left wing judge to the Supreme Court this guy is major right wing!
Bring back the yardarm and firing squads.

I used to write some stuff for it on a specialist area (nothing to do with military/security), so I know the main 2 guys there, I'm going back to 1980's. A few times when I questioned some of their mil/sec stuff (had a few good mates in DF or ex SF DF back then), they were never able to stand up stories to my satisfaction, even in private conversation. Gave up contributing to it when they re-wrote my own stuff in a tacky style. I like John Mulcahy and Paddy Prenderville, but Phoenix is rubbish mostly.
