  • Nordic BG Ex photos now up on DF flickr

I see the Gen. Staff rank markings are Hi-Viz but not if you're from the Air Corps.

Nordic Battle Group ISTAR Training recently took place in Kilworth, including a visit from the Nordic Battle Group Force Cmdr and ISTAR Cmdr from Sweden
"Are they trying to shoot down the other drone? "

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"

why is your man in the Middle wearing a 7th cav flash?
      But there's no danger
      It's a professional career
      Though it could be arranged
With just a word in Mr. Churchill's ear
If you're out of luck you're out of work
We could send you to johannesburg.

Exercises like this show exactly why most Infantry folk should be chasing Sniper and Recce Courses.

Because it is only people with those kind of courses that will get places in NBG and possibly overseas if they end up getting deployed.

surely you would assign a unit(s) to the NBG instead of individuals?

you can't expect it all to come together if you have snipers from the four winds of Dublin, Monaghan, Galway and Cork who have never ever worked with each other but are sent to the NBG just because they hold the right mil quals?

the Irish DF have some great highly skilled guys - let them work, live and operate in the teams at home that they will be required to if / when they deploy.

The majority of people in the NBG are from a specific bde, AFAIK our contribution is an ISTAR coy.... there is no ISTAR coy in the DF. It is a ad-hoc formation for a period of 6-9 months (including training)

Snipers come from Infantry.... possbily Arty
                        UAV is an Arty asset
AMSTAR is a Cavalry asset .... possibly Arty

RGJ we have had this discussion before!

that was for entire battalions, i was just hoping that something like this would give the Irish DF the scope to start working in formed units.

oh well - at least it is something for the Irish DF to get their teeth into and will do well in no doubt.

good luck to all those involved, it seems a very interesting role you have adopted.

They are all from the one brigade. Most are from the same barracks, if not unit.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Not necessarily..It depends on the tasking we get in the NBG.
