Did anyone hear the story about an NCO who was serving in a specific Army unit in the Curragh who jumped ship to a unit in the Canadian army (presumably when his contract was up) with rank? I'm not sure of the timeframe but apparently it was recently.

In other news you know the recession is bad when mowag drivers are talking about the ADF having mowags too and therefore needing drivers...

[Mod: RGJ, your drivel is absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread. I will leave your posts in this thread as an example of your blinkered view of the universe, but consider this an official warning - you are very, very close to ending up moderated.]

Getting back on topic, as you say its a story, one that doesn't take into account that you have to be a Canadian citizen to join the Canadian army. There are lots of stories in the DF. Take it with a pinch of salt, unless you know that it actually happened.

As for mowag drivers, again its talk. Do the ADF want Mowag drivers? Are they recruiting them?

I worked in the prison service for a number of years, and prisons like Wandsworth and Mountjoy are full of immigrants who heard that life was rosy and that there was plenty of work available someplace else, found out it wasn't/the work wasn't there, and ended up inside.

bit like the shite RGJ goes on about with the BA being like Camp Med with guns, don't believe everything you hear.

The NZDF are reducing the amount of NZLAVs in service, surely the Aussies would prefer those drivers in the ASLAVs? The Mowag Piranha 3H is only barely similar.

wise words indeed Paul G, and a happy new year to you.

being based in Canada i have seen some of our lads go through the immigration process and it is far from easy and no certainty even though we are both commonwealth.

RGJ; I haven't changed my mind about anything career wise. I don't want career advice or help from a a randomer on the internet claiming to be an NCO in the BA. My sig block is in relation to the BA being camp med with guns.

I was merely posting a rumor/story I heard from some 3Bn Bods. The story about the NCO is apparently true. He was a specialist and went to a specialist unit...not a specialist in CIT obviously. The Mowag drivers were just dreaming out loud.

There was a thread over here or on Arrse a looong time ago about NCO's/WO's transferring to the ADF though. The ADF did have a manpower shortage for a while.

RGJ is an NCO in the BA and 3 Bn Bods should mind they're forking business..
