What are you tested for in the medical other than the hearing and eye test, and what way does the eye test actually go,is it just one of those eye charts you have to read or is there more involved ??

Medic does the eye and ear test

The doctor will look for a urine sample, and listen to heart, take height / weight readings
    (for RDF anyways)

      For PDF:

      Height & weight checked
Hearing test (avoid all sources of loud noise for at least 72hrs before test)
Eyesight test (it is a machine you look into, hi-tech version of the wall chart, colour test, depth perception, stereo vision, etc etc) (if you wear glasses you must reach the standard both with and without - ie if you need glasses bring them!)
      Lung Capacity Test
Filling in a form on your personal and family medical history
      Chest X-Ray
      Blood Test
      Urine Test
Medical - basically a once over by the equivalent of a GP, testing reflexs, going through medical history, listening to lungs, blood pressure, looking for a hernia etc etc

For RDF - all the above except no chest x-ray, blood or urine tests.

Is there still a hospital in the DFTC?
"Fellow-soldiers of the Irish Republican Army, I have just received a communication from Commandant Pearse calling on us to surrender and you will agree with me that this is the hardest task we have been called upon to perform during this eventful week, but we came into this fight for Irish Independence in obedience to the commands of our higher officers and now in obedience to their wishes we must surrender. I know you would, like myself, prefer to be with our comrades who have already fallen in the fight - we, too, should rather die in this glorious struggle than submit to the enemy." Volunteer Captain Patrick Holahan to 58 of his men at North Brunswick Street, the last group of the Four Courts Garrison to surrender, Sunday 30 April 1916.

If you think this is the case, get the eyes tested and if glasses are required,
bring them with you to the medical... this is OK, once the required eyesight
                standard is met

If you wear glasses you still have to achieve a certain standard without them (you will be tested both with and without and must achieve set standards with both).

For RDF you should get a chance to redo the test not sure about the PDF.

But it would save everyone a lot of hassle if you think you may need glasses get an eye test in the opticians (Specsavers are doing them for €15 at the minute or you may be entitled to a free one from PRSI).

Done my medical today,I passed the hearing test by a narrow margin bu they want me to do it again next week, even the doctor said I don't see a problem with your hearing but if they said come back that's what you have to do, what's the point when I already passed

Also don't wear contact lenses to the test - you will have to remove them and be tested both without and with them, so it could be messy if you were not prepared. As others have said - 7P's.

Dev - i dont think I have ever met the standard without correctives, as all I could see were blurs, a few colours, and some dots, dashes somewhere in front of me
                            But with correctives, I'm fine.
