  • DF Half Marathon and visit

    Hello lads,

    A question: I see the DF Half Marathon is to be held in late March, and if the gods of air smile upon me, I may be back in Ireland to participate. Does anyone on here know more details? All I can find online is a poster and application and that it's out west. No details of the course, start location, etc. Is it an internal race only or open to all comers? It says to ring for details, but only lists and extension and it's hard to call from here. Any help appreciated.

    As a corollary to this, I will be in Dublin during my leave, so if there are any IMO personnel who want to get together, I'd be up for that.

    Should be in Ireland late March/early April for about 10 days, all in Dublin.

    Cheers,

    A

      Set a date- send me details of your credit card limit

      and I will put it to the gargle monster Trell to allow us use his personal pub.
      Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
      Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
      The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
      The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
      The best lack all conviction, while the worst
      Are full of passionate intensity.

          I did it last year(in DPM/Kit).You form up at the Leenane hotel neer Maam cross.You register,collect your goodie bag anf then get bused out to the start point which is in the middle of nowhere.You then make you way back past some of the most beautifull scenery in ireland to the finish point at the hotel.Prizegiving is in the hotel after.Some travel up the night before if travelling large distances and some stay over in the hotel that night or go back into renmore to "recuperate" in Galway
          The event is open to all PDF/RDF.we also had some gardai last year.if you make contact with the organisers i am sure they will accomadate you.
          "Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

            Thnaks for the input, however, it looks like due to a change in plans I will miss the race. Shame, that would be a brilliant finishers medal to add to the mantlepiece. No worries. I will however be in Dublin in late March/early April for a bit of R&R, so if anyone wants to meet up, LMK.

            Cheers,
