I see on Facebook that the new competition for Cadets kicks off today-
30 places up for grabs- best of luck to all you IMO'ers who are putting their names forward;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

It's a welcome development in the middle of the embargo but a bit small based on the existing "pyramid" with 3 Bdes etc. However, it might be prescient in the context of a new white paper.
The graduates have no USAC contracts to lock them in for 10 or 12 years so you need to consider that variable at intake. Even in the recession, a few have moved on to bigger and better things with only three or four years "return on investment".
It's interesting that the NS are accepting graduates with Nautical science or Marine Eng Quals as Cadets. In the past they would have been accepted as direct entrants, sent on a sword waving course, and sent to sea as a Sub Lt.
Now they are being taken, put through the full cadet course, and sent to sea as a sub lt.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Not sure about the training end of things but taking on graduates of those specific degrees has been in for the last few years.
