Originally posted by Bud Fox New Land Rover Defender (LWB) types, painted in camo green / black. Saw them parked up at the airport. Boys were packing heat as well.
What exactly does "packing heat" mean? Did they have an electric blanket in their kitbags?
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
Sure they were the Landrovers, I was surprised as I havent seen that many since the Army changed to the Nissans. There were also a few Patrols there too. CQ will be happy to know that not everything was painted white
Nobody is happy with the Nissan patrols. They are not a military vehicle. Most exercises I have been on in the last few years, the mobile element have requested the older model patrol,as it is much more practical offroad.
The new model is fine for bringing the kids to school..
Land rover 110 defender has always been a superior rugged offroad vehicle, but Rover were slow to adapt the diesel engine, and the DF took what was available.

The effectiveness of any unit with humvees
decreases drastically.
Not because they aren't wonderful at what they do,
but because the first thing any true American soldier asks
himself whenever he gets inside of one is " I wonder if I can wreck this. "
And no... no you cant.
But you'll waste hours trying.
If an Irish soldier is the same way... well.
Maybe they should stay away from them as well.
There was an editorial piece in the Times during the week on Liberia. The article featured a pic of some of the Landrovers. They had what looked like a canvas cover on the back and ring mounts for HMG/GPMG.
If this is the same article that I saw the caption said that thew were dutch vehicles on the ship that is stationed offshore. Look again and you will notice dutch registration plates.
