  • New DPM Webbing?

Picture in Tuesdays Examiner shows what looks to me like Irish pattern DPM Chest Rig worn by PDF Pte. in Kosovo. So when did we get this new web and is it on general issue? It is replacing the PLCE?

I heard on the grape vine that chest rigs will replace PLCE, only in special circumstans,eg when people are operational in the mowag the webbing is too big so they get chest rigs instead.

In the BA chest rigs & assault vests are issued either on a permanent basis to specialist units or on a temporary basis to 'ordinary' units where the regular PLCE would be inappropriate.

So where a recce team operating out of Landrovers may use chest rigs & vests all the time, an infantry unit being sent to Basra might trade in it's PLCE for the duration of the deployment.

Chest rigs were meant to come on stream for vehicle crews as part of the changover form OG PLCE

It looks very similar to the Protac chest rigging. She probably bought it from there, or maybe the defence forces have bought a few and are issuing them.

does the fact that the PDF are soon getting DPM PLCE mean that the RDF will FINALLY get rid of the 58 pattern crap and get the OG PLCE that the PDF is currently using? its a bit off-topic i know but has anyone heard anything about this?

There was a picture of PDF personel in Kosovo in the Hearld yesterday two of them could be seen to be wearing DPM webbing. One had a DPM chest rig on but can't say about the other one in the picture. Also In last months Connect various bits of DPM kit can be seen. The guy on the 50. has a DPM back pack on.

As for us RDF getting PLCE all I can say is it is about time.

Do you really think that the pdf will give us their shiny new dpm webbing? Get real man. They dont want us too have normal plce. If we want good stuff we have to buy our own.

Troops sent to Shannon last year nearly all had DPM back packs of different types, but there was such a mixture of DPM pattern that it was obvious that they were privately purchased. PDF on the PSO in southern brigade all have privately purchased backpacks.

The pictures of DPM webbing we are seeing are almost certainly of privately purchased gear.
