Anyone being processed for the next recruitment in September? I absolutely brickin it, I had to re-apply due to medical difficulties (Lay off the drink!) I hope this it this time, been waiting a year, and if you fail a medcial they will not tell you, I dont know how much money i ran up on the phone bill calling Bricans everyday.
Anyway, was hopping to find someone who is in the process this month for 2E. Passed my interview, medical in 3 weeks.

(Should this not be in the Recruit Depot?)

.ForegoneReality According to several Consultants who specialise in the field I've been told the following..

Lasik - Dead Give-away. Although this is the most expensive treatment available for vision correction it's very easy for an optician to detect the (albeit slight) scarring left to the eye afterwards. No surgeon would wholeheartedly recommend someone joining the defence forces/gardai or play spots which could result with a slap in the head as this might cause great damage to a (now even more) fragile eye. There is a great risk of your nightvision decreasing afterwards also.

The reason i opted for the PRK rather than the LASIK was for the above reason. The first thing i was asked by the surgeon was, "what sports do you play", when i told him, he strongly advised me not to get the LASIK done. As i play contact sports, the risk of me seriously damaging or possibly losing sight in my eye was too great. Not all surgeons are like that, so for anyone getting it done should take it into consideration.
how intensive is the eye exam for the NS, I had wavefront LASIK done, will they check my eye's out enough to see(pardon the pun)......

    PDF General Service Enlistment

Does anybody know when each Brigade is taking in the next batch of recruits? I realise this may be operational info or restricted info but I'm just wondering if anybody can give me a general idea of when these are taken in i.e. summer months or spring etc?

Also, does anybody have any idea of there are any waiting lists and how long a potential recruit usually has to wait before enlisting?

    Any help apprecited!

The eyesight requirements for the cadets are 6/18 in each eye (which may be corrected with glasses/contacts to 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other). Your eyesight gets worse with age anyway.

Im not too sure what the vision requirement is with and without glasses but if you meet the criteria, wearing glasses is fine. (im sure its been mentioned in the thread what the exact visual requirements are).
