  • I expect all sorts of such absolute tosh given we are effectively now in the run-in to a GE where opposition will spout any oul muck to get a vote or two.

As for Chuck's comment re cushy numbers I saw that first hand in the new Defence Bill which contained the interesting proviso that while reservists could serve overseas, they could not do so in the cushy numbers you refer to. Raises interesting point if you have a specialist RDF man who wants to fill a difficult specialist role when the PDF have no-one to go . Anyway back on topic.

.....Reference was made to the closure of the Cathal Brugha Barracks. There is no decision to close Cathal Brugha Barracks.
      Senator Michael McDowell
I am glad to hear that.
      Senator Diarmuid Wilson
      Hear, hear.
      Deputy Simon Coveney
Let me make it clear. That decision has not been made. It is not close to being made.

It was the year of fire...the year of destruction...the year we took back what was ours.
It was the year of rebirth...the year of great sadness...the year of pain...and the year of joy.
It was a new age...It was the end of history.
It was the year everything changed.

      • Thats a political No. A political "maybe" sounds like this. "The defence forces property portfolio is always under review".
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

            Eh???

Which part of Devoy Bks? Seeing as the Kildare Co Co office and car park encompasses a good chunk of it, and the Osprey Hotel takes up probably another good lump of the footprint

“Devoy Barracks housing development is a key strategic project located on John Devoy Road, Naas, Co. The development consists of circa 19,650 sqm of accommodation, delivering 219 new homes, comprising of a mix of terraced houses, duplexes, apartments, a creche, and all ranging in height from 2 to 5 storeys. The new neighbourhood provides homezones, on street parking, tree planting, and open spaces that seamlessly connect throughout. The development will also include:
              a) Undercroftcarparking
              b) Provision of water services, foul and surface water drainage and associated connections across Devoy Barracks with attenuation
              c) Extensive landscaping and public realm works
              d) All associated and ancillary site development and infrastructural works, hard and soft landscaping and boundary treatment works.

              • All that's left is the main arch from the old AAS, from what I recall.

there's a plot beside the Kildare Civil Defence behind the Council buildings. Extensive building of apartments already going on further behind that campus.

To be fair, that's a 12 Yr plus stay of execution for Bricin's. Well, will be longer for CMU 2 Bde until the replacement (badly needed) is built in the Don - looking at 2 yrs or more to get this, from planning to completion, I'd say

2 MMF should have moved to McKee ages ago. Ditto for DFPP
