In theory yes. In practice no. In practice we do not have a lot of things that we theoretically should have. Once the re-org goes through, people will (I hope) be assigned to the Recce platoon and will do the training required.... or will it be the same old story of practice having nothing to do with theory!!!

The Recce platoon you are referring to is the CTR (Close Target Reconaissance) team. This is a specialist course in the PDF. The units deployed to East Timor were considered the CTR teams of their unit.

I am not referring to that.... I am referring to the recce platoon in EVERY Bn's org. Check your Bn Org.

I'll look up TM201 when I get home tonight and get back to you on that. If only I could get my hands on the FCA Officer's Handbook, that had the old Bn structures.

I have both. That is what I am using but I don't want to be specific.

Every PDF Bn has an assigned recce platoon which trains specifically for the task as in all other western armies, its task is to gather intelligence on battalion or higher objectives.
Rifle platoons provide recconaisance for company and platoon actions, this normally relates to short duration recce patrols.
The OP requires completion of a specialist course in the reserve which like pretty much all worthwhile tactical courses have not been run since B20 learned to blow things up with some old wires and a crisp packet.

you need to have enough trained (3* and above) and qualified personnel in order to sufficiently staff the proper Bn structure.
this is why up to now the support coy et recce, A/T, HMG plts etc do not exist on the ground.

well, up to now there is no Reserve support coy or HQ coy, it's not in the establishment. It is proposed that it will, but doesn't exist yet. Up to now, each inf bn has 5/6 inf coys, bn hq is pdf cadre + a number of bn appointments are filled with reserves such as BQ/BSM etc. 81 mortar training (part of supp coy) does go on, but the people are still in inf coys.

(this is all a matter of public record)

I beg to differ on the HQ Coy. That has always been in establishment, it may not be fully up to strength but there is an establishment for it. Generally the roles that are filled are:
                        BSM/RSM
                        BQMS/RQMS
                        Adjutant
                        QM
Sometimes there are clerk Sgts appointed and sometimes the Int and Sigs officer appointment is filled.

Of course there is the Bn HQ element which contains the Cadre.
