  • What do you do on army work experience?

Me and a few mates got in to the coming working experience in McKee bks (from this monday on) and I was just wondering what they do with you for the week?
I take it its a fairly straightforward get attatched to some poor NCO in a particular field for a day then another guy the next day?

    Orderly office..making tea...

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

based on my experience in the don, itll be like a guided tour of the place, theyll show you the weapons and tell you what the different people do, eg the PAs, the cav etc. then youll be pleaded with to join the rdf or pdf. and we had to write an essay.:D

I did 2 weeks work experience in a specfic section of Cathal Brugha Bks, all the staff were very welcoming. The tasks involved, included:

working in the office in that section
dealing with enquires from both public & DF
            doing research
            tour of the bks
visits to units (2 Grn Ord, NSR, 2 AD etc)

& I got to handle weapons

              [ MOD: Merge thread ]

              Lo there!
I was wondering does the army do work experiance? I'm going into transition year this September when we all go back and we have to do 3 weeks work experiance, me and a friend were wondering about work experiance in the army. Is it possible for two 15 year olds?

very much doubt it. 15 is very young unless you want to work in the kitchens for 3 weeks. if by chance you do get it, dont expect to be given guns or anything of the sort. sry

I really just want to get aquainted with the Army way of life and how things go, I can learn about guns and all that over the internet.

YES it is possible to do WE in all parts of the DF. If your school TY teacher does not have a contact youre gonna have to ring the barracks that you want to goto and go through all the bull to find the man responsible. The WE lasts a week and its just a detailed tour of all the facilities and you get to meet men and officers from all corps and ya get a chance to chat to them etc. if ya wanna do it you have to get in early as places are really limited. when i was in TY they did WE for 3 weeks(I think) of the year in baldonnell and they take 10 people each week. it dosent matter what age you are but you HAVE to be in TY.

I did mine in the Air Corps with another guy in my class who also did another week in McKee and another guy in my year did the airs corps at a different time to me.
Thats 3 people that did WE and therefore by the process of mathematical deduction it is possible to do work experience in the DF and hence kermit is full of s**t.

                              Transition Year = TY

I know a guy who did it in Cathal Brugha, he said all he did was make tea for the officers.
