Why is it there?

On the old OG combats we used it, on the new DPM combats I missed it (at first) then I wondered why we ever needed it. Now it's back!!!

What am I talking about? The little pocket at the front right of the combat trousers near the zipper. On the old combats we used it for field dressings, until you dropped down during tactics and your field dressing jammed into things you wished it hadn't. But with the pocket designed for the field dressing on the smock, why have they brough this back?

Its back? Maybe its because of the amount of people that use the pocket on the smock for their ciggies or mobile phone.

Or the fact that most recent overseas missions have not used the smock on a day to day basis.

maybe because the one on the smock is more nuisance than benefit.

Hmmm, i seen one of my cadre with one of them pairs and thought to myself that he was a muppet for adding it to his combats.....

the summer trousers have been modified to include the FFD pocket as smocks are not always worn - east timor was a prime example they simply rolled down their shirt sleeves

Refreshingly logical:D but I wonder will the one on the smock stay in the long run?
It has certainly proved itself to be a nuisance in pretty much all situations.

Surely they could locate so the first time you hit the dirt it DIDN'T ram itself into your bollocks.

I have heard that experience is more (but differently) painful for females also.
