barry: 99% of those are from the same unit. They even went to the nightclub in their uniform. Happens every year, unfortunately, most of them are NCOs!

i was gonna pull the muppets but my better half persuaded me not to!besides seeing as it was a male and a female walking hand in hand i decided not to interrupt their romantic moment
for f***s sake could they not have gotten out of uniform beforehand?
if the rdf want the pdf too take them seriously than there are a few people who would seriously want to cop themselves on and stop treating the organisation as an armed boyscouts drinking society
p.s not saying we dont have our muppets too,but at least ours dont do it in uniform!

Whats the penalty for PDF carrying on in this manner?
Why ISNT it applied to RDF?
I KNOW for a fact that this kind of behaviour is NOT tolerated in my unit."He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

My unit wouldnt tolerate it either. Are people even allowed out the gate of the barracks in such a state?"I have never accepted what many people have kindly said, namely that I inspired the Nation. It was the nation and the race dwelling around the globe that had the lion heart. I had the luck to be called upon to give the roar"

you dont see pdf personnel walking hand in hand in civvy street because
1/we know better than to do it!
2/if we were seen we would be in serious caca.
3/who the hell wants to go drinking,or out with your girlfriend in uniform anyway?we spend enough time in it at work as it is!
why rdf/fca arent disciplined the same way i dont know.when i was in the
fca the attitude was "ah sure their only here for a good time let them do what they want as there is no point in charging them cos they are only civvies and if you do they wont come back".
what are you gonna do eh?

Well if your an MP, go do your bloody job and charge the stupid b@stards cos we dont WANT them back. Sure you'd be doing us (reserves) a favour. IMO its better to have a squad of good recruits than a platoon of pr!cks.
Whats apparent is this affable attitude of PDF authorities who couldnt be ar$ed to do anything cos theyre only civvies? well theyre NOT only civvies, when in uniform, theyre SOLDIERS who've taken the bloody oath.
How in the name of GOD do PDF members, for one second, think that turning a blind eye to the misbehaviour of RDF members, while tearing into PDF members for the same offence, is somehow doing the cause of the RDF's acceptance by the PDF a favour??
Any PDF who take this crap are misguided idiots.
If I make NCO, any RDF in MY unit who think carrying on like this is right, will learn what IS right pretty quick and if i can do anything about it as a lowly Private, i bloody well will.
These attitudes need changing fast. Surely someone else agrees? Theres 51 other weeks in the year to go out and get pi$$ed without wearing a uniform and making your unit look like SH!T.Last edited by morpheus; 15 June 2004, 20:18."He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."

morpheus,i couldnt agree more .in general the attitude of some cadre staff when dishing out advice leaves alot to be desired.two things though;
1/ who said i was an mp?im not!
2/when the cadre staff are eventually all retired,it will be younger more interested nco's who will be rotated thru the reserve units, aswell as training the integrated reserve.wait till you see the attitude changes then.good for the goose good for the gander.

Sorry barry, that was addressed to any MPs who have previously tolerated this, not you directly!
As well as drinking in uniform outside of parade, I personally cannot see why getting pissed on camp for instance is such a big thing to do... Fair enough i assume there will be drinking, but i hope its severely punished the next morning with some form of early start to quench the hangovers, ive heard of people taking sick leave because of this carry on??
Its only degrading the experience for your fellow reserves who are trying to take the camp seriously and may have given up precious time for family or partner holidays to be here.
I dont think, and i certainly hope not, that any members of my unit would be so stupid as to carry on like this on camp or otherwise.
We're supposed to be getting training to help us support our PDF comrades (whoops slip of socialism there) anyway, we shouldnt be bothered about how much we can drink, or who will end up in whos sack etc, it should be down to teamwork and unit cohesion, learning and understanding the basics, getting as much done in the measly week we are taking off work instead of being on holidays, infact if all your after is getting pissed, then leave the RDF and go on a summer holiday, someone else who aspires to "be all they can be" will appreciate your slot on the camp instead.
I dont think ill ever drink again...

MOrpeus.
I too was once that naiive.
During time in two support units I ended up on weekends or camps with, hmm, members of most units of E Bde. One person didn't get drunk when the facilities were available to him. He was a teetotaller.Take these men and women for your example.

If you as an RDF recruit are doing your training you shouldnt be drinking full stop, you maybe RDF but your not a damn cubscout and your training should be takin just as serious as any other rank regardless of whatever organisation/unit your in, personally I dont see how you can train with a hangover anyway and its an absolute embarrasement for everyone when a SOLDIER(which is what you are/training to be)passes out on parade due to drinking the previous night, another thing, yes the RDF go out on social drinks after parade etc. however theres a difference between social drinks and going on da piss in uniform, it should'nt be allowed and I thinks its every member of the D.F's responsiblity to stamp it out

I don't understand the idea of going out and gettint sh!t faced in the first place, never mind when you know you have to be up early to train the next morning. What's wrong with going out for a quiet few and enjoying the craic in the mess.
maybe i'm just getting old

Can't find any link to photos on the online edition, so haven't a clue...."Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"
