  • Criteria for Re-Assignment of PDF Cadre Staff, RDF Officers & NCOs

Under a DRAFT document issued to the OCs of all units in 4 W Bde RDF by OC 4 W Bde RDF on 21/4/04, for dicussion & comment, all members of PDF Cadre staff, RDF officers and RDF NCOs must apply "to fill appointments in the new organisation".

    They must:

hold the substantive rank associated with the appointment
be recommended by their CO (who will also submit a special file on them)
    attend an interview

The following factors will be taken into consideration:

    review of personal file
    seniority (NOT the determining factor)
    unit commanders recommendation
    courses completed including transition courses
review of AF 451s for officers / AF 667 for NCOs
ability to work in area, geographic considerations
    performance & potential
    medical / Fitness / Appearance
    length & nature of service
    experience
special qualifications as required for appointment

However, "NO personnel will suffer loss of Rank or privileges as a consequence of the reassignment process"

Unsuccessful applicants will request what unit they wish to continue their service with. These personnel will be borne on the strength of such unit, supernumerary to the unit's establishment, if necessary, however they will continue to have the rights & entitlements consummate with their rank & service.

RDFRA will be consulting the revelant authorities on this document before 18th May.

      Why?

"NO personnel will suffer loss of Rank or privileges as a consequence of the reassignment process"

Unsuccessful applicants will request what unit they wish to continue their service with. These personnel will be borne on the strength of such unit, supernumerary to the unit's establishment, if necessary, however they will continue to have the rights & entitlements consummate with their rank & service.

If the DF has too many soldiers it will be a first in it's history. In light of the above the interview process is pointless. What they are telling people is whetehr or not you pass the interview you're in.

There are also the problems of this being a Western Bde solo run. Any files kept on personnel must conform to the requirements of the DFRs and the existence of the FOI should be a little warning to COs about putting nasty shit in there.

This is likely to effect the Western & Southern Brigades more than the East as they will be going from as each will be going from 6 Infantry Battalions to 3, while the East will only lose 1.

But it will just increase the number of people who do nothing in the FCA, vast amounts of money will be spent on pay, gratuity, allowances, rations, places on courses etc ... for no benefit.

As I said this seems to be a Western Bde solo run. The other two Brigades are just getting on with the job as efficiently as possible.

Well there's a few things here..

Why the **** are we reading this ? Do you have a spy camera on the OCWBRDF's desk, or as a Unit CO do you feel the need to share ?

Is this how one 'leaks' ? Bad press, lads, Bad press.

Remember this has a strong possibility of wind-up. Who gains and who loses ?

              2. taking it at face value, who said it's a solo run ?

              3. taking it at face value, nothing wrong with it - the cull has to be done.
"Are they trying to shoot down the other drone? "

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"

As something issued from the chain of command to unit OC's, this probably should not be posted on here, even if it was distributed to RDFRA. I don't see it up on their web site and I doubt if the OC 4 W Bde RDF intended it to be online.

a summary of it is online. Its from the OC W Bde. to unit OC's, do you want to phone him up to see if he wants his document (or a summary of it) on here for the general public?

I think it is a good idea. As for it being a W Comd solo run, fair play if it is. The W Comd has been used as a guinea pig for all the re-org changes and this is just another example. The fact that we have it means the other Comds will almost certainly be using it too, unless real problems are found.

Unless someone proposes making soldiers redundant it is probably the best way. The freedom to choose a unit you wish to serve in is common sense, would you expect a CS not needed in Galway to parade in Finner instead?
