I was on admin for last year's E Bde standard's course. And while the students got issued everything for the duration, the admin staff did not. Queenie sounds like she's in the same position.

Kermit (presuming you're RDF) can you HONESTLY say that you've been ISSUED with all of the above, and your Bergen and CIFO while we're on the subject????
Kermit is SPECIAL!!! He has ways and means. Queenie, you're right, no NORMAL RDF personnel get issued with all this kit.

I just hope whoever is playing enemy on Kermit's exercise, captures him, ties him up, and robs all his gear :D

poncho, now called basha, tent pegs, bungees, goretex bivi bag and sleeping bag are part of the issue sleeping system.
They may be part of the sleeping system on paper but all I've ever seen people get issued is a poncho and a sleeping bag. It might be different however if you are on an ex with the PDF.

That does not make any difference in my unit. We're luck to get anything (on joing instructions or not), even if our unit is running the course!

                poncho, now called basha,

They are two different things actually. A basha doesn't have a hole in it to put your head through.

The old sleeping system consisted of the '58 patter sleeping bag and green Poncho. The new PDF sleeping system consist of the new sleeping bag, basha, etc.

The RDF always gets the old system and the PDF always gets the new A few exceptions).

I take it by exceptions you mean when equipment is actually issued in accordance with health and safety regulations.

What is generally involved in the PSO exercises?

Is it normal UN type operations (OPs, CHPs, Patrolling etc) or is it combat type operations?

If you are able to tell Jimmy C this he will have a better idea of what to bring.

My advise don't bring anything or any value if you are going to be searched!

It is a mixture of different things, from op's to roadblocks to company in attack. You have to be ready for anything.

Probably, but I rang RDFRA to get the official stance, then I range our CQ to give him an earful and by the time the conversation ends he has me thanking him for the stuff he HAS given us!!! I wish I wasnt so weak..

Anyway probably too late posting stuff to bring now but to finish off......kit mat, full water bottles, ear defenders, toothbrush/paste. I wouldnt bother with a helmet unless you're on the exercise....

72 hour is now finished. Just as a reference for other people going on a similar course, here is a list of the things I didn't think to bring.

DOUBLE hearing protection, I never use both but it was required and I didn't have it.
Tea bags, soup etc. We were told we would get ration packs so I didn't bring any. They lied.
