I am going to camp next week and they are issuing 58 pattren.
What a joke, didnt even bother to collect it. you couldnt fit a smurf in it
after the wet gear basha spare clothes etc there must be some health and safety directive against it ! As for Gucci ki, get yourself a camping stove, they are a bit heavier then a hexi but worth it , a basha as opposed to the issued poncho.

Yes I've heard of deafness claims Goldie, but it isn't exactly practical to wear double hearing protection when you are lead man in a platoon in attack.

Our motto over here in the Guard is 'Buy your way to war'.

We're buying about as much equipment as you guys are, except a lot of it is more expensive. (My rifle sight is setting me back almost $600 for example)

DOUBLE hearing protection, I never use both but it was required and I didn't have it.
Tea bags, soup etc. We were told we would get ration packs so I didn't bring any. They lied.
You will regret it when you are in your 40s and suffering from Tinnitis. Ever hear of the army Deafness claims?

Probably, but I rang RDFRA to get the official stance, then I range our CQ to give him an earful and by the time the conversation ends he has me thanking him for the stuff he HAS given us!!! I wish I wasnt so weak..

Anyway probably too late posting stuff to bring now but to finish off......kit mat, full water bottles, ear defenders, toothbrush/paste. I wouldnt bother with a helmet unless you're on the exercise....

I really must transfer to the south / DFTC where they seem to get everything
You won't get it in the south...see the recruit depot re fleeces...:D

It is a mixture of different things, from op's to roadblocks to company in attack. You have to be ready for anything.

What is generally involved in the PSO exercises?

Is it normal UN type operations (OPs, CHPs, Patrolling etc) or is it combat type operations?

If you are able to tell Jimmy C this he will have a better idea of what to bring.

My advise don't bring anything or any value if you are going to be searched!

I take it by exceptions you mean when equipment is actually issued in accordance with health and safety regulations.

The old sleeping system consisted of the '58 patter sleeping bag and green Poncho. The new PDF sleeping system consist of the new sleeping bag, basha, etc.

The RDF always gets the old system and the PDF always gets the new A few exceptions).

    poncho, now called basha,

They are two different things actually. A basha doesn't have a hole in it to put your head through.

That does not make any difference in my unit. We're luck to get anything (on joing instructions or not), even if our unit is running the course!

They may be part of the sleeping system on paper but all I've ever seen people get issued is a poncho and a sleeping bag. It might be different however if you are on an ex with the PDF.
