My unit did a church gaurd in Shannon and Ennis. There was a small parade in Ennis (us and the band). Colour party and church gaurd in No.1s, main body in DPMs. Was nice to be a cpl for the day!

Our parade went ok, it would have been nice to have rifles but then you have to organise security which then takes numbers away from the main body. People are less inclined to making smart comments when you march down the main st armed though !
I agree Bravo20, trying to get your timing off a civvie band is not a good idea, they tend to change the step too often and because some of the have kids as members they have to step short which means that you end up leaving them behind.

I sware to the bands in the parades we were at were as slow and kept changing step. We had weapons and were not near a barracks, well a coy didnt do the escort anyway

I always try to ignore the "civi" bands behind and try and concentrate on the army No 1 band. However the echoes in Dame Street are a bit of a bollox

Ours went well, DPM's, no rifles. It seems only the units near an active barracks got to use the rifles??

well as you know the dublin parade went ok, got some appalause but had some wankers on dame street shouting "NO WAR",personaly it took the grin off my face! also had a problem with the army no.1 band in front and the dublin fire brigade band right behind us...... kinda throws the "left foot and the thump" off!

If anyone had any pictures of the Limerick March, I would be very interested in them. everything went ok, apart from when we were passing the viewing stand and the order was given for the companies to glance at the stand. The speaker was blaring something so loud that personally I didnt hear the order. About half of the company did, so only about half the company did do it. It couldnt have been helped. Other than the speaker being told to shut up for five minutes.

Things in Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Ballyporeen all went off to plan.
Fermoy was at a nice easy slow pace due to the special olympics athleths in the front of the parade and surprise surprise not comments about us being sandbags. No floats in the fermoy parade except for security. All in step incuding the very smart flag party, dressed in No1`s
Mitchelstown as a very good parade and at a very nice healthy pace. We had to stop twice to allow the bands catch.
Ballyporeen was as usuall, alot of "hurry up and wait" as the band decided to grace the place with their presence half and hour late
Security got a good fright as a few muppets set of a fireworks in Bally

Well in Cork most were in DPM's with rifles, but the Colours were carried by MP's in No:1's (along with a few others with rifles). The rest of our unit were thrown in with the infantry.

The MP no:1's look very smart with red band on the peaked cap etc. Very snazzy.

Got a great applause at the stand. However some woman was talking on the mike about how great it was that Irelands soldiers were at home where they belonged unlike some other countries etc...
Distinctly anti-war in her comments. Very surprised that they would go and make a political statement like that on St Pats day.

All in all great fun, great weather, great buzz and great fun mixing with the other units from Collins, a great bunch. Met some very sound people from other units.

And I'm glad to say our parade went nice and smoothly (for the most part).
