Tend to agree ....Rockets are handy ...but the hassle assembling and remounting makes them in need of a proper replacement....Something along the size of the small haversack belonging to the 58 pattern is ideal ...but hard to find....the other option is to aquire a second set of rockets.....

have to say i am no longer a fan of the rockets a day sack is next on my shopping list , a day sack has handy small pockets for usefull items with the rocket pouchs you are stuck with two large ones and you cant just pic them up like a day sack all that hassle taking apart the bergan makes the rockets a poor secound

I've got both but I never use them both on the same exercise. How often do RDF do exercises that need you live away from a base camp longer than your webbing can sustain you? The only use I have for my day sack is as a small bergen. BTW, I have the one from the store and it's almost too comfortable.

Back on topic, I prefer to use a grabsack and keep my rockets zipped on rather than slung for the grabsack role.;
However I have found with my protac daysack that it clashes awkwardly with the helmet when leopard crawling.

For me the Daysack is the only option. The rocket pouches stay on the bergen. They are too slow to assemble.
On the PSO two years ago we had some very wise PDF NCO's teaching us. They used a system where they would have their daysack inside their bergen. If they reached their patrol base and had to go on a patrol they'd drop the bergen and pull out their daysack. 2 seconds is all it'll take instead of detaching rocket pouches.
But as Jimmy said, when are we ever going to be out long enough to use the bergen.
My advise - Forget the rocket pouches, you can buy a 35 ltr DPM daysack for about 30 Euro

You needed to be told that?
Initiative people, its not like you're damaging issue kit or endangering health and safety by slinging the reduced CEMO across the back of your bergen.

I have both but rarely use the rocket pouches. When I first got them, I was on a 24 hr Ex (no need for bergen) and wore the Rockets only. I had a bitch of a time attaching stuff like ground mats etc. to them. I bought a cheap daysack and have only used that since. On the PSO 2 years ago, we had several problems with rocket pouches having all the weight on one side. The Pl radio operator had a SINGCARS E which put all the weight on one side and caused much discomfort.
Is there any difference in the things you'd carry in daysack and rocket pockets (if not you may be carrying 2 of everything) ? or it is just for "grab-ability"?

Anyone try using a PLCE Medic pouch instead?, not sure how it would suit the role though?
Approx. 20x15x8cm when packed Fits to Assault Pack and Issue Rucksack in place of side pouch. Fully zipped pouch with three internal zipped mesh detachable bags and various storage compartments. Made from 1000 denier waterproof Cordura. No contents.
i have 1 rocket pouch attached to the side of my bergen and my kit mat on the other side where the other pouch should be. my second pouch (and yoke) is then under the top cover of my bergen and used as a patrol bag when needed. i find it works for me and there is no need to reassemble as you dont need massive space for a patrol bag. :tri:
