    I suppose the manufacturers knew the army too well and guessed that the chances of getting issued with more than a single uniform would be pretty slim. lol

      It was not always thus.

      I still have one of the original fca kitbags, must be well over 10 years old now. despite much abuse it's still going strong.

      on the other hand, the straps on the more recent models fail a lot more easily. both the metal pins holding the main strap, and the stitching holding the straps to the body of the bag, seem weaker.

        Just to cheer you all up.

        I have to commend the clothing stores in the naval base.
        They usually have what you want.
        If they don't its usually back in stock pretty quickly.
        Most of them are very helpful and polite.
        "fair wear and tear" principle is applied sensibly.
        If you are not greedy you are never left stuck for anything, especially if you are joining a ship.
        They will open the stores on weekends and bank holidays to facilitate reservists.

        Problems?
        Its a bit of a hike for the Dublin unit. (reasonable for everyone else).
        If they have recruits or cadets due to join they get stingey for a while.

        Kit problems for recruits or trained men are now a factor of unit and cadre admin only.

          I guess the advantage is all their clients,apart from the NSR are in the same location.

          Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

              One other problem - only have the items in navy blue !!!!!!

                  Apparantly, the problem with the IMS computer not recgognising RDF army numbers was fixed last week.

                      Is there any move to train RDF soldiers to use the ims system? Now that our cadre are being gotten rid would it not make sense to have rdf members who are capable of using the system and issueing kit to those who need it.

                            Ladies, may I introduce you to a concept which you are both obviously unfamiliar with - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politeness

                            I suggest study and application of said concept. Now get back on topic

                              The IMS is used in the clothing stores, that would mean there are RDF personnel in that stores, their are none!

                                It a simple matter really

                                The Re Org allows for the RDF to have store men

                                All that needs to happen is the Cadre CQ takes only one of his fingers out of his arse and gets and issue of clothing

                                Centeral clothing IMS it to the particular unit

                                in the unit the RDF storeman- (not Cadre Private) who is trained in the IMS - then allots under the supervision of a reserve QM the required kit to the required people

                                In the centeal clothing those lazy clowns would have even less work to do - because the entering in on each person IMS account would be done by trained RDF IMS operators

                                is this not what the re org was supposed to be
                                Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                                Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                                The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                                The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                                The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                                Are full of passionate intensity.
