Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell what the armys position is on using uniforms in a civilian manner. Can you for example post pictures of yourself in your uniform in newspapers or for that matter can you allow pictures to be taken of yourself. I know this activity happens but is it legal? I was told it was illegal to use it in a civilian manner i.e. if you went hiking on your own you could not wear army supplied equipment. Is this tue??

You may wear uniform going to and returning and whilst on training.

for example at a military function last weekend, where a person wearing civilian dress was wearing the fleece over his clothes standing around talking to high ranking officers.
or for example in Game Stop, Galway last friday a crusty wearing a brand new smock with a peace pin on the rank slide.

I saw a guy in full uniform except wearing white runners and no beret. He and his friend who was in civvies got in a car and drove off.It is only by contemplation of the incompetent that we can appreciate the difficulties and accomplishments of the competent.
