It is indeed. There was an article in An Cosantoir some months back on it.

Radiological monitoring used to be one of the major roles of the RDF, not sure what the situation is since the reorg though.

there is a chapter on it in the manual of section and plt tactics Restricted of course and it forms part of 2-3* training , the df has accuired additional nbc equipment since 911 , but as a pdf nco told me once if you see the mushroom cloud put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye

NBC is part of the training curriculuum for all PDF units and someone always volunteers for the annual NBC instructors course whether they want to or not.

THe facility is there for the reserves is there if someone up there had any initiative, some units (usually urban ones) have basic suit and gas drills as part of their 3* curriculuum, some of us have even gotten the pleasure of CS gas but thats the extent of it apart from possibly Transport units some of which seem to have done the whole scrubdown aspect.

                  its changed to CBRN now

NBC has been removed as part of the 3* course (Reserves). Someone in their infinate wisdom believed that we would not need it. What bright spark thought that???? I think you now have to be a Sgt before you receive any NBC training.

It is done by RDF cadre staff.... not RDF themselves (in the infantry anyway). I saw mention of it in the Nuclear emergency plan and did a bit of investigating.

So it's CBRN warfare, or just CBRN?

I think its just plain CBRN Warfare- i think the only real difference is the name - i have seen no new manulas etc- some consultancy firm probably got paid a shit load for the name change-(We got it from the brits BTW)

its probably going to be the most important tactical lessons we are never going to learn properly, horrible as it is we should be devoting a greater deal of training time both PDF and RDF.

Do the RDF go to the CS Chamber and if so have you lads got IPE and Respirators
