  • Cadet college graduation photo required.

On a related topic on another board, when a Cadet receives his/her/its degree from UCG, presumably he/she/it is in uniform, and has the cape over it? If so, can anyone provide a photo or link to such?

There was a few photos in a recent Connect. Dont know if you can get them online though.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming........................
WOO HOO - What a Ride!" :tri:

        Librarian’s Achievement

The Defence Forces Library and Information Research Centre has had a notable achievement by one of its staff recently. Sgt Tom McCormack graduated with Honours from the National College of Ireland with a post-graduate Diploma in eLearning. He had just completed the Standard NCOs Course three days before sitting his final exams and has just filled the appointment of Sgt Assistant Librarian. The library has a database of An Cosantóir from its first issue and they are more than happy to assist anyone seeking information on any article published in the magazine. ‘The Barracks and Posts of Ireland’ – a series of articles which appeared in An Cosantóir many years ago, have proven very popular in the library recently and are viewed by military historians regularly. The Library can be contacted via imail at thomas.mccormack@defenceforces.ie or by phone at 045-445871, and is open till 2200hrs each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to allow students access to use the facility at night.

That must be the slow students. At that rate, they would be in 7 years before reporting for full-time service to a unit. Considering the fact that they get guaranteed promotions based upon service there would be very few Lieutenants in the army because they would all be in college.

Remember college does not run 7 days a week,365 days a year. Outside the normal term, and at weekends these junior officers are with their units(usually get caught for duties at weekends).

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

There are a few pictures on the back page of the dec/jan Connect. Unfortunately you can only get the latest edition on military.ie or some from early 2004, so if somebody had that issue and a scanner maybe they would oblige you CT. In return for the Irac pics you showed us maybe.

2/Lts spend a year with a unit, after commissionning and then go to college for 4 years, making the 5 as outlined above. Given that the promotion for 2/Lts is 2 years, they are promoted to Lts whilst in college, and will have spent 3 years in the rank on graduation.
Not completely true. Cadets who have done a year or more in college before joining cadets, do not do the year and 4 months in their unit. They may go back to college and start their course where they left off. This means that if a cadet had one year done prior to joining, he has only 3 years in college, and thus have spent only 1 year as a L/T upon graduation.
Also Tanker, UCG is not the only college an officer t can attend. there are a few officers in UL. Depends what course they want.
