They used them for a while till questions were asked about were did Xcoy get those weapons from as there was no record of a weapon issue from the armory.
The gards got involved and there was murder.
But that was before they were legalised.
Surely u cant be serious about using toy guns for training!!! That would make a right show of the RDF. What would be next?? People running around on exercises shouting BANG?? This leads to the question what does deactivating a styre entail?
Would it still be useful for learning care and cleaning and other such lessons that do not require live rounds?
Where would you store such weapons?
If stolen how easily would they be made servicable?
Would it not make more sence to have weapons "delivered" and returned by the cadre every alternate parade night?
Yes I know its an hours drive from the nearest post but is it not possible for them to bring out a cou[ple of weapons for 7.20. let you do 2 classes back to back in 90mins and then be gone back to bks intime to go home at 10?
surely there are some comitted lads?Without supplies no army is brave.

Maybe an ex-18 Bn/ 5 Cav person here can confirm this but I've heard that the Mayo FCA had a few timber FN's which they used for arms drill on night parade."Why, it appears that we appointed all of our worst generals to command the armies and we appointed all of our best generals to edit the newspapers. I mean, I found by reading a newspaper that these editor generals saw all of the defects plainly from the start but didn't tell me until it was too late. I'm willing to yield my place to these best generals and I'll do my best for the cause by editing a newspaper"

Some rural coys may have stores to the required standards (thought not all by any means!).
We do have committed personnel but it is at least an hour in light traffic from our Coy HQ to where are stores is. By the time the weapons have got down the lads (security, drivers, cadre) have been travelling for 2 hours, to do 90 minutes training, and then 2 hours back. Is it worth it?! (consider the time allocated to weapons in the syllabus).

I was thinking more on the lines of A Coy parades at stores location and B Coy parades at HQ on the same night.
Members of A coy bring the weps out to B Coy this way or Members of B Coy are bussed to Stores location where members of A coy have set up ready to do the class. Actually the second option is more efficient as no security would be required!!
Its only an idea and I am sure you wouldl be more aware than I of any logistical problems that this would pose.Without supplies no army is brave.
