Apod & Muinteoir, you are both correct.

    Boo Hoo.
    GET ON WITH IT.

    Just to recap.

Your first line of attack is ( to paraphrase ), we dont want RDF with us overseas, sure what training do they have", followed by " RDF shouldnt be given training before us real soldiers". Can you see the conflict here?
    Make your mind up.
    Stop whining.

rdf personnel don't rely on these courses to continue their careers. they are not told that they have to have a certain amount of career courses and a trip overseas done before their contract is up. the rdf should be able to run their own courses. i know what your going to say, we don't have the equipment or resources, well isn't that what the precious re-org is about. you getting more equipment and resources. what will happen when a member of the rdf can't keep up physically on some course and they end up going flat. why would you need to do any courses from what i have seen you don't really have a purpose.

that last sentence was directed towards the infantry, artillery, cav and the ad

OK so all rdf should sit around and ape the all too common barrack rats.
Can't you compete with the 10%?

the rdf should be able to run their own courses.
They can and do. The problem is that the knowledge passed down by an RDF instructor is somewhat diluted ie he/she has been instructed by an RDF instructor, a photocopy of a photocopy no new ink cartridge.

i know what your going to say, we don't have the equipment or resources, well isn't that what the precious re-org is about. you getting more equipment and resources.
Resources = access to courses run by PDF???????

what will happen when a member of the rdf can't keep up physically on some course and they end up going flat.

RDF personnel would have to pass a physical to qualify for ANY course. If, on the course, they cannot keep up, they would be treated as equals and rtu'd.

why would you need to do any courses from what i have seen you don't really have a purpose.

        Read the white paper.

Without the RDF component of AD Ireland's air defence capability would amount to a grand total of [MOD: Operational Information] there or thereabouts. I think the AD's existance can be justified

He goes to the mess of course, followed by some bad marching around the square, he then proceeds to wear his uniform incorrectly in some form or another, then he goes to stores and asks for some much needed pdf uniform and gets it, then continues to wear that badly, then he goes to the pub in it. The next day he goes to the range with his rifle that he couldn't possibly know how to use because he didn't spend 16 weeks learning how to use it, fires that. After countless nd's he heads home where he has absolutly no other commitments other than to reck PDF's heads. The next thursday night he applys for another course gets straight in ahead of the PDF just to reck their heads of course and the cycle repeats.

And everyone in the RDF is exactly like this

As the FCA we were there to take over your duties should you have been need else where, as the RDF we'll have exactly the same purpose as you.

Actually....the last course I was on there was a 50/50 split between RDF/PDF.

There was 1 person RTU'ed during the course, that person was of course.....anybody care to take a guess?

at the moment irelands need for the ad is nil as there is no threat from being attacked from above.
rdf infantry, artillery, cav and ad units have no need for the training provided by the majority of courses run by the pdf because they are directed at people going overseas.

joker could you mind telling me what course that was

the pdf has enough personnel to cope with all duties given to them. when was the last time you did a cash, explosive or prisoner escort. a barrack guard that doesn't include your annual camp in the glen. worked the gate at a major barracks or did a BST? should places on courses be given to the rdf 1 year wonders?

oh yeah when will you have time to do all this. you all have jobs or are in school?
when will you be able to take out 3 weeks to 6 months to complete a course?
                        the pdf are soldiers 24/7
the rdf are soldiers once a week some weekends and an entire week every summer

at the moment, i say again, at the moment.
it is common knowledge that ireland has no air threat at the moment. if circumstances were to change then the ad would be needed. and my comments refered to the deployment of rdf personnel overseas

So, there is no air threat, let's disband the AD!

Please dont reply, I'm washing my hair.

muinteoir you seem to have a really bad problem with this re-org thing but you can't do anything about it. just give it a go well you have to anyway ya have no choice! joshua is right!!!!
you said rdf don't need these courses for their careers i beg to differ. the NCO's course, i hope to go on maybe next yr or the yr after because i wanna go onto the pdf, i'm gonna apply for a cadetship after my degree and if i'm an NCO i'll get a higher % mark as i'm sure ya know so as ya can see many reserve personnel's careers depend on these courses and it just so happens that a few places in some courses are allocated to the RDF. It's really beneficial for us try understand that!!!
                              Cheers Bernard......
