    Transformation of the Defence Forces

I see according to the Strategic Framework Page 16, Naval capabilities: Naval Service X and S band radar systems, but according to this site, https://www.navalanalyses.com/2017/0...eet-today.html and others, the Naval Service P50s and P60s are already equipped with Hensoldt Kelvin Hughes X and S band radars, so does anyone know what this is about?

Since posting the question I did some research and see that the Saab Sea Giraffe 1X and Thales NS50 radars are X band radars whilst the Saab Sea Giraffe AMB and Thales NS100 radars are S band radars, I don't suppose there is a snowballs chance in hell of one of these being procured for the P60s (any rumours etc.)

The P60s are already fitted for, but not with radar of that type.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

Then one can only hope that maybe they’ll get that type of radar as an enabler for the following (I guess I’m turning into an optimist in my old age):
            80. Naval Service Primary armament guns refurbishment and modernisation
            81. Naval Service gun fire control system

Wonder if there's any chance the OTO Melara will be binned for something more practical for these ships?

Huge percentage of Western war ships have it as standard

Wouldn’t that require a fairly significant refit?

Not necessarily. It's plug & play.

Possibly just an upgrade or a service life extension?

OTO Melara. Its easier to take it out than put it in. Current model penetrates below deck, and is self contained, but you can pop it out, block off the hole in the deck permanently, and mount a modern bolt on version that does not penetrate. After that you are just changing control units, which is just cabling that already exists.

Ahhhh you meant a more capable version of OTO Melara?

thought you meant something like Bofors 57mm or 40mm or something like a 30mm

If upgrading the 76mm would it not be better to keep the deck penetrating version and fit the multi-feed ammunition magazine so as to allow, in addition to normal rounds, the use of volcano and dart rounds. Then, if required, strales may be added.
