  • 50 Years in Service the of world Peace (Sunday World Pull out)

To my surprise when flicking through this mornings "Sunday World" I found a 16 page supplemental entitled "50 Years in the service of World Peace" a tribute to the Defence Forces!!

I have not yet finished reading it, but at a glance it seems to be a surprisingly (some what) accurate depiction! Covering everything from The Rangers to The Reserves.

Nice to see the Army indulging in some decent PR and actually informing the general public on what it is their taxpayers hard earned cash is being spent on.

Might be worth your while picking one up!

I saw on a newspaper during the week that there will be ceremonies in barracks around the country to commemorate the above, and former members of the DF who served with the UN are invited to attend.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

For some reason, 14 Dec rings a bell in this regard. Which is this coming Wednesday...

Picked up a copy. Good to see some informative publicity for the general public, but will someone ever tell the press that there aren't really 12,500 in the Army Reserve. People are wondering where we all are...

Very good bit of PR. Very impressed with it and impressing me with something that isn't shiny isn't easy.

50th ANNIVERSARY OF IRELANDS MEMBERSHIP OF THE UNITED NATIONS
Ireland joined the United Nations on 14th December 1955. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic event, a number of ceremonies will take place throughout the Defence Forces in December 2005.

Finner Camp, Ballyshannon, 22nd December at 12 noon (071 9841488)

Former members of the Defence Forces who served with the United Nations are invited, with their families, to attend the ceremonies.

Those who wish to attend are kindly requested to contact the Barrack Adjutant at the appropriate location.

Thanks for that Dev. I knew my mind wasn't deceiving me. I'd seen an ad in the paper for UN commemoration on Dec 14, now I see it's the one in McKee Bks.
