You have answered a question which has not been asked in this thread ie Is morale low within your unit?

Now answer the question asked. Look at the big picture.

"Is Morale in the RDF low since the Reorg?"

Firstly I reckon it depends on your unit and the members within. The reason I say this is because its Up to the N.C.O.s to determine whether morale is high or low. Sometimes its not all too apparent but the N.C.O.s are the BACKBONE of the army, every army. Its the N.C.O.s that get things done.

Anyhow what exactly will prevent low morale... In my opinion here, it is constant activity. Again down to the NCOs, and having said that, constant activity does not mean repititive activity. It should be varied from time to time and be balanced. The whole time big emphasis and concentration on what it is we are training for...

The RDFra might have some power if it disbanded....and advised the the reserve members to walk away..and then leave the minister with a quandry !

Oh! what to do with the appointments ..and vacancies that were created under the reorg...and the budget.

These were all created with a supposed enlightened overview..it hasn't happened. Until the DOD see the reality they won't see the reality of the situation.

What if the enlisted refused the legality of all appointments since the reorg and termed the reorg to be a illegal order given it hasn't lived up to its expectations in the proposed time frame.?

OK...so I propose heresy and incitement to mutiny..but would the registered memebers of the association get off their ****ing arses and stand up for what they pay for!..failing that will they at least try to preserve what they are alledgedlly selling their souls for

If you can find another news service that provides news footage of relevance to the DF, feel free to post it.
I also post news from the Examiner. I don't work for them either.
If you were half as smart as you think you are, you would have figured out where I work long ago.

Interesting report on Prime time last night about the decline of Volunteerism in a wealthy society. Relates to the RDF in a way.

Does RDFRA have any real lobbying power at all?? Maybe we in the RDF should make contact with the Swedish and Finnish Reserve forces and compair notes with them. Those nations are the ones we work closest with overseas after all.

The Dads Army image of the RDF being a home gaurd either needs to be ditched by the powers that be, or set down in stone as the way things are going to be and going to remain.
The army would be far better served by 1 reserve battalion per brigade to cover the assorted duties centred in the main centres of population along with MP, Medical, Engineer, Logs companies staffed with trained specialists who do that sort of work in their civilian life to give the army real strong capabilities from these units.

Tearing about recruiting school leavers who stay 12 months is just pointless.
Recruit small numbers of useful people rather than taking in every wierdo, dumbo and misfit who comes to the door because he cant get a job.

Even trying to get little things like RDF officers being able to authorise the issuing of clothing to recruits has been met by a stone wall, "yeah .. .we'll see about that" (standard civil service / PDF answer).

The military (PDF) want you (the members of the RDF) to give everything to the organisation but will not offer anything in return!!!

Lets face it. Iv been a member of a western infantry battalion for several years now.
Our training is poor, our fitness levels are terrible.
The quality of SOME of the people we have is woeful and no matter what they do they cannot be got rid of. The useless fat has to be trimmed from the organisation.
The reorg did not go far enough.

I dont blame the DOD/PDF for being sceptical if clothing issues is the most important thing that they bring to the negotiating tables.
We must improve ourselves before everybody has shiny new raingear and fancy boots for 1 bloody week in the summer.

Imagine that the FCA/RDF was completely disbanded, how many new shiny mowags could they buy with those savings??? Much more useful to them

    (sorry Im ranting)

Willie O Dea is going to be giving a talk on EU Battle Groups tomorrow in University of LImerick at 1345hrs in the Jean Monnet Lecture Hall. Swedish, Finish counter parts will be giving their perspectives also. Maybe some one in the crowd should heckle the Minister about who is going to fill the gaps when up to a tenth of the PDF leave on such a mission.
