  • War in Kilworth!!!

Did anyone read any of the articles in last sunday's papers regarding the possibe Court-Marshalling of NCO's charged with letting confined troops to the pub during annual camp in kilworth? I just got a glimpse of an article in "Ireland on Sunday"!

If anyone has it please post it!

What the hell is going with the 51st, there's been nothing but trouble there since the re-org! Will Galway and Mayo ever get along peacefully

I think some of the unmentioned in the article..might refer to the road safety issue.

There has been a policy on camps in the past to restrict travel to and from the camp to army transport due to road safety issue regarding the road outside the camp.

I can see where this could lead to problems if the re was insufficent facilties to provide transport.

This was already an issue befor the Re org...so the paper is wide of the mark on that point.

There are other issues regarding confining the members of the camp...it helps the mess profits

I have been down this road in the past....You cannot confine persons to a camp without legitimate reason..especially if PDF attachments are allowed to leave the camp.

As for any threat of courts martial...bring it on...chances of a conviction are slim under the circumstances.

lots of other issues raised in the article..which are worthy of articles in themselves.

It is Camp Standing Orders and SOP for NO ONE to walk out of Kilworth, Past experience has found it to be extremely Dangerous. So "letting" troops go to the Glocamorra or Blue Dragon (or whatever its called these days) is contraveening those orders and an offence under military Law.

Kilworth is a Horrible kip to stay in...

        1. The Mess is the Only place to relax, there's no other facilities.

        2. The Barman almost takes your arm off with the Shutter 10 minutes before "Closing time"

        3. There are NO Cigarettes Sold in Camp.

There's a few reasons why people would not want to stay in Camp.

But I haven't seen the Article and as in most cases of incidents like this I'm going on heresay, Which I personally know is not alway very accurate

Blue dragon..lol....its been a while since you've been out of the pale...its the Corbet Court.

This will all change in the future no doubt as I believe the new Dublin Cork main road will actually pass behind the camp.

I think the grounding of people was more of a safety related issue..but as I said..there have been local arrangements made when suitable transport was available in the past.

But having said that..if the camp standing orders state ( was never arsed reading them)...whatever case..well then it should apply to all for the duration of the camp.

There is alot more to this incidient than what meets the eye and what appeared in the paper. I was on camp there until yesterday but had to leave due to family reasons and work.
Kilworth is a kip and you are better off out on the ground while you are there. There is nothing to do when finished in the evenings.
Work on the new by-pass is not now due to start until 2007 at the earlest and it will be at the back of the camp which may reduce the risk some bit.

What the problem with Kilworth? Good beds, warm showers, hot food and a mess, whats the problem?

As for something to do in the evenings, what do ya want, a cinema something? It is a place of work, tatics and the like, so there is no chance of getting e.g. a gym there and even if they did there would be no PTI's to be seen...

This crossing the road arse is a complete joke. If the army gave everyone the Green Cross Code qualification and not just the officers (which I assume they have *cough* bollocks *cough*) then I dont see why everyone shouldnt be capable of cro.... scratch that... lets give them weapons and ammunition instead...

Rant over... I have always found there is someone, army or civvie (no officer piggyback as of yet!!), to drive you across the road for a run or horse a load of people down to the pub...

In summary, Kilworth is my camp away from...eh...barracks, its a grand auld spot. I only have two issues:

                a) Weather
                b) Guard Room

                But thats another thread...

                      Escape from Kilworth,
Accidentally go out the back gate, Accidentally through the fields, Accidentally go into the pub, return the same route. If you get caught "No Sir, who me in the pub Sir, I just went for a walk Sir.

His suggestion didn't involve going by road, it was walk through the fields
