    We used talcs with the old mortar boards. They were sheets of heavy tracing paper (a bit like greaseproof paper) with a circular grid on them. After the first round, the talc was put on the target and aligned for OT direction to be ready for corrections. Perhaps talc is a generic name for this heavy tracing paper and could also be used for map overlays etc

      Oh, I know what they are , we use them for TEWTs and so on. it's the name I was wondering about, I know it existed WWII
