the predator has a crew of around 55, and has to have its command unit in the airstrip it is launched from AFAIK. Hellfire are not in the irish arsenal at the moment. I dont know who would use it but possibly arty O.P. , cav reccie teams, navy for drug tracking and survailence, infantry & ARW to see objectives in real time. it could become a very valuable asset to the DF.
The school of artillery told us it couldn't be done...
    They were wrong.

      Hi all
If Ralphie wants it, he'll make a case for the Air Corps to have it by saying that only qualified pilots should be allowed to fly it, which is the case in some Militaries. Personally, I think anyone who's spent a night on the PlayStation should be allowed to "fly" it.
The Hellfire is fired from the Predator because the Predator has it's own camera that is able to be slaved to the weapon, as well as be used to fly the aircraft.

at unit cost of 4million USD each and a unit consisting of 55 crew flying 4 of these... do you REALLY think we will be "considering" Predator!?????

        hunter costs 1.2 mill each

how much was 1 pc9 again?

i think these will be very small uav's possible hand launched or from a small clear strip, more like jumped up radio controlled planes with some surveillance equipment.

"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

Hand-held UAV's are short-range, short-endurance types designed to be used at battalion & company level. Buying only two of these then giving them to the CIS doesn't make sense. There's plenty of medium-range examples out there for the money they're willing to spend.

                  the major consideration is

can it be operated by 3 men sitting in a nissan
                  Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***

The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                  Are full of passionate intensity.

the shadow?...yes, the hunter I think is 5 guy's, and the predator is something like 8-10 mechanics, pilots, sensor operator ect

Laoch should know the answer to that one...

I presume that the "3" are from Bn Sigs as the Signal Corps is now the CIS Corps.
