    German Minesweeper Aground Norway

    Hi Guys found this on the web looks to be bad


    German efficiency undermined as boat hits the rocks on 21st February 2007

    The Germans are usually known for their efficiency but when a 42-strong crew on minesweeper FGS Gromitz failed to notice they were fast approaching a jutting rock in Norwegian waters they were left a little red-faced.


    The crew were intent on spotting mines off the coast of western Norway - evidently at the expense of less explosive obstacles.

      The Nato Standing mine countermeasures force were involved in a massive ex in the area. Polish and British Vessels were also involved. They must have been giving it welly to get that far up the rock.

      Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

          Maybe they were taking a leaf out of the americans book.

          "Unidentified vessel! this is FGS Gromitz, alter your course at once!" Too bad there wasn't a vhf station there saying it was a rock.
          "The Question is not: how far you will take this? The Question is do you possess the constitution to go as far as is needed?"

              Ouch that is very nasty, dont know much about ships but surely they should have seen that lump of rock.

                Hanging from the mast are two signal balls.

                This usually means "not under command"

                Three black balls would mean "aground"

                Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

                        I tend to agree with Marius...but historically the Germans have had some bad experiences with ships in Norway..battle of Narvik comes to mind.lol
