Above LT CDR there are no NSR person holding these appointments but in theory company sized elements don't require these ranks....gain same with Warrant officer.....no warrant Officer equivalent but SCPO Executive Branch is Master At Arms,,,SPO as in senior petty officer..rank equivelant to quartermaster sergeant is common.

I once heard that there was a Warrant Officer in An Slua Muiri once upon a time, but that sometime in the 50s or early 60s the position was left vacant and then quietly done away with.
Yep the appointment of warrant officer did exist before the invention of SCPO..which is an anomally of a rank because in technical terms it applies to an Army BQ which is a Q appointment..not a line appointment.
So when the Q branch or SA's in the navy adopted the rank..all the other divisions had to have an equal rank so a SCPO was appointed in each division...along with Warrant officers...even though there is no need for it.
SM or NSR units were too small to have both appointments, so it was settled upon that the master at arms which in the NS is a warrant officer of the Executive Branch senior NCO in the NS,in the SM would be a SCPO...given that unit sizes could not feasibly support a warrant officer at SM level at it would mean that each division would have a w/o and two SCPOs for a total strenght of 120 persons..the SM would be top heavy with senior NCOs..so it was capped at one scpo per company, from the Executive branch serving as master at arms.
Trying to equate Army and Naval ranks was at the time mysterious to say the least because there were two classsifications of AB the senior of which equated to a lance corporal who had no pay or rank equivalent in the Army...so during the late fifties the whole thing was tidied up to equate with army ranks.
Which still leaves the anomally that each division within the NS has a warrant officer but although he may be senior in service to his equivalent in the Executive branch , technically he is junior in rank as the master at arms...drawn from the executive branch only, is the senior ranking NCO within the service,by virtue of the fact that he is the senior disciplinarian in the service.
Confused..?

We do not have any NCO ranks above SCPO. The highest Commissioned rank is LT CDR.
We are phasing out SPO rank, ie thay are not being replaced when they retire.
Hmm..now theres an interesting point. The NSR will be devoid of two NCO ranks...and all senior appointments are junior to Army reserve rank..no senior officer appointed as equal to Lt>Col rank..surely a great void is forming.
