  • Cabin Fever??

Trust RTÉ to mess it up!

    __________________________________________________ _________
Cabin Fever, the ship involved in RTÉ's reality TV series, has broken up after running aground on rocks off Tory Island.

All those who were on board are safe and well. Most were airlifted off, but one swam ashore to Tory Island.

It had been hoped that a high tide at 5.50pm would enable the captain to refloat the ship.

The Aer Corps rescue helicopter from Finner camp in Donegal earlier dropped a portable pump on board the ship.

The Arranmore Lifeboat was trying to attach a rope to the vessel to attempt to pull it off the rocks but the operation proved difficult and it was feared the ship had been damaged beneath the waterline.

A spokesperson for Coco Productions, who make the programme for RTÉ, said that the main thing is that no-one was hurt.

Cabin Fever issued a distress call at 1:30 this afternoon and the Arranmore Lifeboat and Aer Corps Helicopter were launched.

A live programme had been planned from Sligo on Monday night but Coco Productions said the situation is fluid and they are monitoring it.

If you have to do it, you always have to do it right. Either it makes a difference, or it’s good practice so that when it does make a difference, it gets done right.

I wonder who has to pay for the last one- RTÉ or the company that was making the program for RTÉ??

Here's another case of poor DF PR.

Where Air Corps or Naval Service are involved in a rescue, this should be made known to the public via their website and similar. Most of the work done in this regard won't make the news, even though lives and property are saved.

The DF can't complain about a poor public profile, if no effort is made to make the public aware of the good workthey do.

                    Cabin Fever??

From reading many of the newspaper reports, it would seem that the two experienced people on board (the owner and skipper) were below decks at the time of the incident. It also seems that the two people on watch at the time had no sailing experience. Anyone who has sailed around this part of Ireland (Donegal, Tory Island) knows how treacherous these waters are. A bit silly to leave two unexperienced people all alone on watch!!!!! What do you navy guys think?? No inexperienced sailor (or newbie) is ever left alone on watch by themselves??

They should send the cast of the cabin fever off to treasure Island. The only reason they went with the idea of the boat was they wanted to save money, ha ha ha well done RTE.
