    Anyone willing to place bets on the next naval vessel being named Cathal, as a mark of respect for our dear departed dictator...er I mean former Taoiseach.

      are Naval vessels not named after females
      Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
      Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
      The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
      The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
      The best lack all conviction, while the worst
      Are full of passionate intensity.

          Setanta, Ferdia etc. Good chance the proposed vessel would fall into the "auxiliary" category, thus qualifying for a male name.

                  Was there an L.E Grainne ?

                  Grainne = Grace. Grace O'Malley was a 16th century Irish Pirate and seafarer. http//home.fiac.net/marshaw/mhaille.htm

                              Only we could use the names of the great warriors of the Fianna for auxilliaries.
                              How /why did that ever come about? I know Irish women have a reputation and all that but...?
