  • Reserve waiting time

Why does it take so long to get fully signed up and given a uniform in the reserve, and also alot of people choose the army reserve because even though they are waiting for garda clearance etc.., they still get to attend on parade nights and interact with weapons , drill etc. I feel that the Navy reserve really has to up the ante with its recruitment campaign, and was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way?

Hi Seaghost. The recruitment campaign of the unit you are joining depends largely on the specific unit itself. It isn't a NSR or Army Reserve thing, it is the individual unit you are joining. Even in the Army Reserve, you can have units with training centres barely metres apart and still get a completely different induction from both. There is very little uniformity in the the way units in the RDF recruit. Some can process you in 6 weeks, some still struggle to do it in 6 months. Don't blame the NSR specifically - blame the particuliar unit.
