One would wonder why they were out there in the first place. There was a five day warning of this impending storm, so it was no surprise. Was it worth the damage and puting the lives of the crew at risk just to make Cork? Would the captain not have been better to make for the south coast of the UK? I'd say he has a few questions to answer to the owners!

My understanding is they expected to be clear of the storms by the time they finished passing through the Bay of Biscay, but I agree, France or UK would have been a better option, if only to anchor, on sunday and tuesday night.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

I thought I would post this here as its a Air Sea Resuce Thread.
This set has been launched by the Royal Mail highlighting the bravery of those who risk their lives to save others at sea.
Does anyone know if An Post have ever issued any stamps for the RNLI or Irish Coastguard?.

Not really. Nobody died. A ship is just a lump of potential scrap. Scrap plate is about €400 per tonne at the moment(from €47 per tonne or thereabouts a year or so ago.)
It will live on in another, better ship.
Anything to do with dancing is an unfortunate name for a ship anyway. It implies instability. i.e "she was dancing all over the waves". You don't wanna dance, just slide.....

Two fishing boat crewmen have been taken to hospital after being pulled from the sea off County Donegal.
A major air and sea search began after the Strathmarie was reported missing at about 1700 GMT. It is thought it got into difficulties off Malin Head.
One fisherman was spotted in the water earlier and was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where his condition is being assessed.
The second man was picked up later and taken to the same hospital.
Three lifeboats and the Irish Coastguard helicopter were involved in the operation.

One day I want to buy a brand new boat.
And I will be most careful when it comes to choosing a nameLast edited by Goldie fish; 15 March 2008, 20:18.'History is a vast early warning system'. Norman Cousins

Emergency crews go to sea distress signal
Sunday, 16 March 2008 19:13
Emergency crew are on their way to a location of a distress signal 160km south west of Mizen Head in Cork.
A coastguard helicopter and an air corps reconnaissance aircraft are going to where a satellite linked emergency beacon used on ships and fishing vessels is sending out a distress signal.
The CASA air corps plane is due at the scene at 19:30pm.
It will be joined later by the Waterford coastguard helicopter.
A coastguard spokesman at Valencia they had received no reports any vessels being in difficulty in the area but efforts are underway to locate the beacon and to establish if any vessel has got into difficulty in the area.It was the year of fire...the year of destruction...the year we took back what was ours.
It was the year of rebirth...the year of great sadness...the year of pain...and the year of joy.
It was a new age...It was the end of history.
It was the year everything changed.
