I doubt there was not much chance of survival for this poor chap.
The skipper of the vessel Zilmermeeuw, a Belgian vessel with six people onboard, went missing whilst the crew were below deck having lunch. When the crew returned from their break, they found their skipper missing and contacted Solent Coastguard.
The Coastguard scrambled the Coastguard Rescue helicopter Mike Uniform and requested the Newhaven and Eastbourne RNLI lifeboats to launch. A request for help was broadcast simultaneously to all shipping and six fishing vessels and commercial vessels (four of them Belgian) responded and offered their assistance with the search. Mike Uniform has now returned and a second Coastguard helicopter Whiskey Bravo will begin a search.
The weather was inclement with westerly winds up to 23 knots, poor visibility, rain and sleet. We know that the skipper was not wearing a lifejacket or survival suit.

Could have been a messy enough aftermath.

Options examined ranged from righting the vessel (known as par-buckling), cutting up in situ or a combination of both. The preferred method will involve cargo, trailer and machinery removal, including any debris and any pollutants, whilst maintaining the integrity of the hull. The vessel will be stripped down internally until only the shell remains. The hull will then be cut into manageable pieces and transported for recycling.
The original plan to reduce the list using tidal and internal buoyancy was abandoned due to the additional structural damage sustained during storms on 12 March. The vessel remains lying on the beach with a list of 100 + degrees. In addition the vessel continues to sink deeper into the sand. It is estimated that at least 4 metres of the bridge / wheelhouse is now under the sand.
