    Wonderful invention.

Oh and it replaces the 2 that are currently on L.E. Eithne. They'll tie in to all the other sensor suite aboard too including AIS, and Navigation and fire control radar. The Unit must have been provided to at least 3 other Navies by the successful bidder.

Interesting to see the NS are doing a lot of their Procurement away from the DoD.

How come the Air Corps aren't doing the same, or have I just not seen it? Is there a ceiling? I'm thinking about the proposed NSR training craft...Can the NS do their own thing up to a certain amount before they need to get the DoD involved? Who is responsible for financing?

            More Upgrades

Replacement Radar Displays - Irish Naval Service
            http://www.etenders.gov.ie/search/sh...x?ID=JUN104036

To supply, install and commission replacement Radar displays on board Irish Naval vessels L.E. EITHNE, L.E. AISLING and L.E. AOIFE.
Displays will replace existing Kelvin Hughes Nucleus 2 displays.
Displays must be compatible with existing transceivers as fitted on board the 3 vessels(2 x MK IV S-Band, 1 x MK VI X-Band).
Equipment to be mounted on suitable shock mountings.
Separate quotes are required for table mounted and pedestal mounted display options.
Its interesting to see how far Radar displays have come since the ships were originally built.
I can remember the only way you could view the CRT display was either in a curtained off darkroom, or using a cone over the display.

a.The Radar is to accept the following external inputs

            GPS
            AIS
            Rib tracking
            Log
            Synchro Gyro
            NMEA Gyro
            Stepper Gyro
            Wind sensor information
            Echo sounder

Display and control panel illumination must be operator adjustable. Night setting illumination levels must allow clear interpretation of all information but must not impair night vision of Bridge watch keeping personnel.

Radar functionality to include the following

Electronic Bearing Line (EBL) * 2
            EBL Off Centre
            Variable Range Marker (VRM)
            Parallel Index Lines
            Clearing Bearings
            Wheel Over Lines
            Relative Mapping functions
            True Mapping functions
            Surface Vector
            Air Vector
            ARPA Capability
            Target labelling
            Capability to generate sector zones
            Variable Range Units
            Man Over board (MOB) Reference.
