Ship in trouble off Co Kerry coast
Saturday, 17 January 2009 18:18
A cargo ship with a crew of eight on board has got into difficulty after losing engine power at the entrance to Dingle Bay in Co Kerry.
The crew managed to restart the engines but they broke down again a short time later.
The Shannon-based coastguard helicopter is standing by at Shannon Airport in case the crew need to be evacuated
AdvertisementThe 90m vessel had left Foyne in Co Limerick yesterday and was en route to Bordeaux in France.
The ship is the Antiguan registered 'Oslo'.
A Dutch vessel, the Dinteldijk, is going to its assistance.
Valentia coastguard says the 'Oslo' lost engine power earlier today and is drifting about nine miles from the entrance to the bay.
Weather conditions in the area are exceptionally bad with storm force 10 winds and 8m-9m sea swells.Tags: None
