This surprised me when I saw it, I have to say. Didn't realise that the
recruitment ban hadn't extended to the Naval Service
The recruit class was named after John Barry (1745 –1803)
who was an officer in the Continental Navy during the American
Revolutionary War and later in the US Navy
Is this a tradition in the Naval Service ? I've heard of classes being called
after the phonetic alphabet, but this is the first I've heard of a name being
being used....
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"
In recent times, the recruit class has been named after people of historical significance to the Naval Service.
As for the recruitment embargo, could it be that this class commenced training before the Embargo was brought in? Could the class have started before November 08? Given the training now covers new areas, it may have been longer than 16 weeks since they started.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

This did occur to me, but only after I'd posted....

I can see the next class being a long way off. Happened before and the result is detrimental. The NS needs a constant intake of recruits to ata least give guys on ships some hope of being replaced.
If replaceemnst are not available crews are not rotated and people leave . The Government have certainly played the recession thing to the full here with guys having no choice but to stay in because of the jobs situation.
the NS differs from the rest of the DF here as the rotation of bodies on ships is a life line to morale .
