I'll be taking photos from the pier - RTE will have coverage of it.

I got a run down of the events of the day earlier.

roughly every ten minutes they'll do something .
there should be 2 helicopters, multiple lifeboats (ballycotton and crosshaven)
a casa should to a lifeboat drop and a couple of passes
a pyrotechnics display from Aisling, cliff rescue will simulate a car crash on the high road
and a mate of mine will "lose" a man overboard to be rescued by lifeboat and winched to a chopper. that's if I remembered it all right anyway

Eithne was the NS vessel on site. Very impressive show. Vid to follow.

yeah, I must have misheard when my mate gave me the rundown on what would be happening.
I've a ton of video and photos to go online - here's a teaser.

                right, some more.

Waterford and shannon helicopters fly past to open the event:

Air Corps Casa 253 follows them:

Eithne fires up the water cannon:

Next Eithne fires a smoke flare from the bows:

Parachute flares from Eithne (that I totally fail to track with the camera)

and the best of all, another flyby by the helicopter, some footage of Eithne, the lifeboats and the Casa again.

Waterford and Shannon coast guard rescue helicopters:

Rescue 115 passed Eithne, Crosshaven Coastguard in foreground:

Casa about to drop a liferaft:

If you must fall overboard, do it with a cameraman and two lifeboats nearby

I want to make a joke about marksmanship here:

                  whee:

                  lots more here.

yeah, I was over near the naval pier - one camera on tripod and one hand held.
If you were on one of the boats and want shots of it - I have a lot more that I didn't put online.

We witnessed a real rescue when a child's baseball cap fell in the water and one of the RNLI RIBs plucked it out for his father.

                            Tragedy averted!

There is no greater trauma than the loss of a childs favourite cap...
